Unknown C-47. -
At some
point in the late 80’s - early 90s a couple European scavengers trolled
Bolivia for DC-3 or C-47 pieces, they were able to fill their shipping
containers with a few good pieces including the better part (one full
cabin) of two Bolivian Air Force (TAM-24, TAM-25) frames and many a
piece of this unknown C-47. The loot included plenty of accessories,
instrument panels, propellers, tail sections, stabilizers and wingtips
–which I’m told make very kitsch tables, but it’s all the same if they
were turned into expensive pots and pans as far as I’m concerned.
Although these fellows may not have being the first –nor will sadly be
the last- to rip one last buck out of these aircraft, with their visit
we did lose the last remnants of positive identification for this
aircraft (in the form of a construction plaque). Though USAF titles
remain for this aircraft, and we are almost certain that this is a
former FAB unit; it will be some time before we can match an identity to
this C-47. |
