PART 2
Military airframes
stored in La Paz

Since
most ground visits to this airport often aim at viewing the majority of
aircraft possible I decided to include a few photos of some of the
retired material the Bolivian Air Force keeps around. Most of these
military birds lived long productive lives and stand their ground here
expecting one last honor, which should be the creation of a dedicated
aviation museum, were they ought to be kept as restored examples of
Bolivia’s vast aeronautical heritage.

The
Bolivian Air Force’s decentralized company
Transportes Aéreos
Bolivianos
is well
known for its extensive cargo operations; currently they are at the
forefront of the Bolivian international air cargo sector and operate
using a fleet of DC-10s and C-130s. One of their hangars is right across
the platform of the passenger terminal at the military sector of the
airport, and next to it are many stored aircraft including this C-130A
(cn. 182-3144).
This
particular aircraft is a former US Air Force unit (66-0536) and was
purchased by FAB in 1988; it was the registered as TAM-66 (1) and later
leased to TAB. It flew commercially until the late nineties and may
have been leased to Transafrik.
